I did this little painting last year in may and already posted on instagram and ko-fi. I decided to post it here too. It's just a little picnic of some bumble bees with honey, some lavender and a bunch of lilacs.
This is actually one of my paintings, where I gathered references and put a lot of care into the planning. In the past I usually just winged the paintings on sheer brain imagery, which is not the best on the long run. Nowadays I tend to put in the work for the planning and pre-painting parts, so I'm enjoying the process and the end product more.

A quiet ride on the public transport, during a nice summer day. Svajone and Ray (the couple in the middle) decided to go to the city center on this fine day to find some polish for Svajone's swords. Now the question is. Will they find any?
I finally finished this painting. I started it like... I don't even know when. 2 years maybe? At first I painted it on canvas, with gouache, but then I abandoned it and when I've got back to it, it got moldy, so I had to restart, which in the end I don't mind. I had a clear canvas/paper this way and learning from the previous version I think I managed to do a better job with it. I'm overall pleased with the end result. :)
So, let's begin with the obvious thing. I did not post for almost a month now.
I went on a vacation between June 20 and 21, so I didn't take the time to draw much, or even to record what I've done so far. With this. I bring 2 weeks worth of sketchbook pages.
In my main sketchbook I only drew on a few days during the first week, before going to my vacation.
On the first page I drew a portrait study.
Here's the link for the original portrait as well: https://tinyurl.com/36haer4z

On the second spread I had more fun. I drew a random character portrait, then several studies.

On the third spread I took a bigger challenge, in order to prepare myself for my upcoming comic project. Here I did a scenery study on one of the pages, and scribbles on the other. The scribbles were mainly for pen testing and exercising my hand.

The original is absolutely magical and amazing. Mine is great, for a sketch/study, but I didn't manage to quite capture the atmosphere from the original. Maybe in the future with more practise I'll manage to do so. :)

On the fourth spread I drew up the main characters from my upcoming web comic.

And that's it from my main sketchbook from this time period, but not the last sketches I made.
During the first week I also made 5 tiny sketchbooks. :)
One I made it with sketch paper. I just took out some pages from a spiral bound sketchbook of mine, with 90gsm sketch papers. The brand for the paper is Fabriano.

On the first spread in this sketchbook I drew some scribbles and random head shots.

On the second spread I sketched up a street view and did some coloured pencil swatches. The pencils are all Crayolas I've found during my vacation at my parents house.

I also made 4 small to slightly bigger sized sketchbooks with watercolour paper. I made all of these sketchbook in an accordion style, so I can have one big landscape page, if I wish to.
Two of these sketchbook were made with 200gsm, 100% cellulose watercolour paper (the left and the right one), while the other two were made with 300gsm, 25% cotton watercolour paper (the big one in the middle and the open one).
The brand for both types of papers are Fabriano also all of them is cold pressed.

I already started to fill one of the watercolour sketchbooks as well.
First I did some colour swatches on the first page. Also I went into some colour mixing as well.

On the second spread I did a sketch of a cherry tree and a shed door during a my vacation.

All together I really enjoyed all of these sketches and especially the making of the tiny sketchbooks. :)
That is all the sketches I have from between June 13 and 26. I shall make more sketches and document them all here. :)
Until then, be gentle with yourselves. ❤️
